Miranda's Tips & Tricks - Dry Body Brush
Although you can dry body brush any time of the day, I recommend doing it first thing in the morning, just before you shower. Start with your feet and legs and work your way up towards your heart in long gentle sweeping motions. The only place I change stroke direction from upwards is for the stomach, because gently brushing your belly in a clockwise direction can aide with digestion.
Dry brushing also helps to balance the nervous system, which supports adrenal function by reducing stress, and it’s a great way to exfoliate for super smooth skin, promote blood circulation and stimulate drainage from the lymphatic system to release excess toxins.
My go-to body brush is this Aromatherapy Associates' Dry Body Brush, and some of my tips and tricks to using it include;
CONNECTION
It’s a great way to improve the mind-body connection first thing in the morning, especially if you feel a little foggy. My little routine is to use it in conjunction with my Energy Clearing Ritual Kit. I burn the palo santo to clear the energy, then I take a few minutes dry brushing and deep breathing at the same time. These few minutes help me re-establish that connection, and I feel more grounded and re-energized.
INCREASE ABSORPTION
After dry body brushing, because all of the dead skin has been exfoliated your skin is best prepared to absorb the nutrients in your body lotion or oil. I recommend following with the Enriched Body Lotion or the Noni Glow Body Oil. It’s also great way to ensure an even tan when using the Gradual Self-Tanning Lotion.
CLEANING
Remember to clean your brush. Because your body brush is being used to exfoliate dead skin, I recommend using a mixture of water and tea tree oil in a spray bottle to keep it clean and hygienic. Once a week, lightly spray the brush and leave it out in the sun to dry. It’s also a good idea to replace your brush every few months if you are using it regularly.You can read more about the best technique to dry body brush and other tips here.
